WELCOME

The Board of Directors and Staff welcome you to this, our 56th season. The Swarthmore Swim Club (SSC) provides a positive summer experience for its membership and is a responsible steward of the property for the community and future generations.  We are pleased to have you share the 2010 season with us.

SSC is a nonprofit, co-op type organization in which all members have a stake in helping and improving the club for everyone’s enjoyment. Accordingly, there are opportunities to  volunteer at work days such as spring and fall clean-ups and plantings; to donate games, toys, and equipment; to assist with club events and activities; or to join the SSC Board of Directors.

Remember, the strength of our club is an active membership.  Please enjoy the summer and do not hesitate to provide suggestions to the club management and Board of Directors about what we can do to keep SSC a healthy and vibrant part of our community.

HISTORY

At 3 PM on Sunday, March 6, 1955, ground was broken for what we now enjoy—The Swarthmore Swim Club. On July 4, 1955, the pool opened to 400 charter member families. What we now call the L pool was the first swimming area to be en¬joyed by members. The 25-yard lap pool was opened on May 30, 1958.
